All four of our SYS orchestras impressed a large audience with their strong performances at "Jubilee Treasures" on November 17th, at The Fox Theater. The concert began with Dr. John Marshall and the Spokane Youth Strings performing three fun pieces, Tangerine Rag, Mango Tango, and Momentous. They were followed by the Spokane Youth Sinfonietta, led by Jerilynn Harris, performing the familiar Palladio by Karl Jenkins, arranged by Robert Longfield, Fantasia on "The Water is Wide" by Mark Barnard, and A Su Merced, Don Jose by Nubia Jaime Donjuan.
Following Sinfonietta, the Spokane Youth Philharmonic performed arrangements for Hopak from "Fair at Sorochinsk" by Mussorgsky, Overture from "Abduction from the Seraglio" by Mozart, and Holst's Jupiter from the Planets.
After intermission, the Spokane Youth Symphony Orchestra performed Overture to La Forza Del Destino, the beautiful Finlandia by Sibelius, and the exciting "Academic Festival Overture" by Brahms.
All of our orchestras played well and made the first concert of the season a wonderful experience!
